Steam Dreams in partnership with the 5305 Locomotive Association is proud to offer a one off tour The Palatine from London to Manchester with newly restored Bristish Railways Britannia class locomotive 70013 Oliver Cromwell. This tour will run on Saturday 26th July 2008.
Hauling what will be the locomotives second tour since recent restoration the opportunity to travel along the Midland route to the north before crossing the scenic Hope Valley route is one not to be missed. Both routes are synonymous with this class of engine and the Hope Valley route via the Peak District National Park is one of the most spectacular in England.
Our train departs London's Victoria station around 0815hrs heading via West London before turning north and calling at St Albans at 0915hrs. From here we continue our journey north pausing to pick up passengers at Kettering (1015), Leicester (1115) and Loughborough (1130). We are then routed via Derby before skirting the edges of the Peak District until north of Chesterfield where we head west for the spectacular final section of our journey to Manchester arriving around 1400hrs
On arrival at Manchester there will be three hours or so to visit the many sights such as the Museums, Cathedral, and extensive shopping area.
Our return journey will be hauled by a preserved Class 50 diesel locomotive departing Manchester around 1730. We retrace our route enjoying a stunning Summer's evening through the Peak District and along the scenic Derbyshire and Leicestershire countryside. Our arrival back at Loughbourgh will be approximately 1930, Leicester 1945, Kettering 2015, St Albans 2100 and into London Victoria at 2145.
