The Carol Concert in Salisbury is a highlight of any Christmas and is even more special with a children's choir in attendance. Always a firm favourite, we have changed the route of this year's train so we travel back via Havant and Guildford affording a relaxing return journey. This route rarely sees steam operations and it will be the first time in many years that a King Arthur class locomotive has operated on this route.
Departing from London's Waterloo station around 1110hrs we head out via Staines (app.1145hrs) and Woking (app.1225hrs) before making a fast run along the Southern main line to Salisbury for an arrival at approximately 1400hrs.
With around four hours to explore Salisbury and attend the carol concert in the Cathedral there is plenty of offer for the visitor including excellent antiques shops, architecture and local cafes and public houses.
Our return departs from Salisbury around 1755hrs and heads to the outskirts of Portsmouth before heading north towards Guildford and on to Woking where we call again at approximately 2035hrs. After calling at Staines around 2110hrs we arrive back into London Waterloo at 2200hrs.
Our train is steam hauled throughout by King Arthur class loco 30777 Sir Lamiel.
